Trauma, in many ways, is a preventable social issue with far-reaching effects. On an individual level, it impacts emotional regulation, empathy, attunement and attachment—especially in caregivers—creating ripple effects through families, communities and across generations. Trauma is a social and systemic issue that requires a social and systemic response. Trauma coaching could be a part of the solution. This course will be presented by Dr. Athena Phillips (LCSW, PsyD).
This study, Trauma Coaching: An Innovation for Resource-Scarce Communities and Beyond addresses the global shortage of trauma-trained mental health providers—an issue further compounded by the lack of culturally resonant care delivered by relatable, trusted providers.
The results of this qualitative study will be presented during this presentation.
Participants will be able to:
- Describe how coaching and therapy can work in adjunct to enhance care, shorten the length of time in treatment, and expand the global mental health workforce.
- Describe how trauma coaching is in alignment with the World Health Organization's task-sharing framework.
- Describe how trauma coaches viewed their role in terms of referring to therapy, scope of practice, and the specifics surrounding their skill sets and focus.
- Describe the results of the study conducted on trauma coaching as an innovation
