Navigating Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue + Fostering Resilience in Shared Collective Trauma

2 NBCC CE hours are available for licensed mental health providers. Integrative Trauma Treatment Center (ITTC) has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6912.

In times of widespread crisis, both clients and professionals in the healing and helping fields may experience the same collective trauma, blurring the lines between personal and professional resilience. This continuing education training is designed for all professionals—mental health providers, healthcare workers, social workers, spiritual caregivers, and others who support clients while simultaneously navigating their own exposure to the same traumatic event.

Participants will explore the unique challenges of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue within the context of shared collective trauma, such as pandemics, natural disasters, or social upheavals. The training will provide an in-depth understanding of how trauma responses manifest in both clients and professionals, how these shared experiences impact the helping relationship, and strategies for maintaining professional boundaries while fostering self-care and resilience.

Through evidence-based practices, case studies, and interactive discussions, attendees will gain practical tools to recognize the warning signs of secondary trauma, develop effective coping mechanisms, and cultivate sustainable well-being in their professional work. This course will empower healing professionals to continue providing high-quality care while safeguarding their own mental and emotional health.

Coaches who completed a formal certification course are welcome, however this course does not qualify for coaching CE credits.

Participants will be able to...

  • Identify and Differentiate – Define vicarious trauma, resilience, and compassion fatigue within the context of shared collective trauma, and distinguish their impact on both the therapist and the client.
  • Assess and Mitigate – Recognize the signs and symptoms of secondary trauma in oneself and clients, and apply evidence-based strategies to reduce its effects while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Cultivate Resilience – Implement practical self-care techniques, reflective practices, and organizational support systems to sustain emotional well-being and prevent burnout in clinical practice
